Here you can find help and support on our intelligent WiFi Pods. If you're a WiFi Max customer, download the Virgin Media Connect app to get the most out of your Pods.

WiFi Pod FAQs

Put simply, our mesh WiFi Pods are plug-in devices that boost your WiFi signal, so you can get reliable internet throughout your whole home. Part of our WiFi Max service, you can claim up to three WiFi Pods if you’re receiving download speeds of less than 30Mbps.

Our WiFi guarantee with WiFi Max is our promise you’ll enjoy download speeds of at least 30Mbps in every room or get £100 bill credit. It’s backed up by our signal-boosting mesh WiFi Pods (if needed) and Intelligent WiFi service – at no extra cost with Gig1 Fibre Broadband and our Volt packages. You can also add WiFi Max to our M125 to M500 Fibre Broadband packs (without Volt) for £8 a month with your first WiFi Pod provided automatically.

To see if you need a WiFi Pod, simply test your speeds on the Virgin Media Connect app.

Using intelligent WiFi technology, our WiFi Pods extend the Hubs signal to provide one seamless network around your home. By constantly adapting and evolving, the mesh network leans how you and your household use your WiFi, so it can automatically fix WiFi issues there and then, optimising your broadband experience.

WiFi Pods are available to any customers with the Hub 3, 4, 5 or 5x. Not sure which Hub you’ve got? Check the sticker at the bottom of the Hub.

Our old WiFi Boosters can help you tackle WiFi coverage problems. They use your home’s electrical wiring to boost the WiFi signal in the room.

Our new mesh WiFi Pods plug into any normal three-pin socket in your house, and work using mesh WiFi technology instead of your electrical wiring. They’ll team up with the Virgin Media WiFi Hub to boost your WiFi coverage around your home, even in those tricky signal-less spots.

Both types of Virgin Media WiFi Pods use the same mesh technology to boost your home WiFi coverage. The key difference – apart from the colour – is that a WiFi Pod (white) plugs straight into a socket, while a WiFi Pod (black) has a power cable that connects the Pod to your power socket.

This can mean that a WiFi Pod (black) has a little more flexibility when it comes to where you plug it in.

If you’ve run a speed test on the Virgin Media Connect app and aren’t getting download speeds of at least 30Mbps in every room, you can get up to three WiFi Pods – and if that doesn’t help, we’ll add £100 credit on your next bill.

One mesh WiFi Pod working with the WiFi Hub should give great WiFi coverage around your home. But if you’re still experiencing download speeds of less than 30Mbps in every room, you might need one or two more mesh WiFi Pods.

If you’ve got a mesh WiFi Pod, but your download speeds are still lower than 30Mbps in every room – you can ask for up to two extra mesh WiFi Pods. You can find out how fast your download speeds are by running a speed test on the Virgin Media Connect app.

If you need an extra WiFi Pod, sign in to My Virgin Media, click on Your Package and follow the steps in the WiFi Max tab. Please note you can only request one extra Pod at a time.

You can also use one of our accessible contact options if you need more help getting in touch. We’ll help you figure out where you need better WiFi signal, and if an extra WiFi Pod will help.

On the move? Good news! You can take your WiFi Pods with you to your new home and continue to receive WiFi Max – as long as you’re on our M125 broadband package or above.

Got a Hub 3, 4, 5 or 5x? Use the free Virgin Media Connect app to check for any blackspots and figure out the best place to put the Pods in your new home.

No – you’ll still need the WiFi Hub. If you have a Hub 3, 4, 5 or 5x, this will work with our mesh WiFi Pods.

This’ll depend on things like:

• The broadband speed coming into the WiFi Hub – which you can check using the Virgin Media Connect app. Go to our super-intelligent home scan to test speeds all around your home.
• Overall network traffic
• The type of application you’re using on your device – for example, Netflix may perform better for you than a lesser-known streaming site
• Which WiFi banding your device is using – devices on 5GHz should run faster than those on 2.4GHz
• How far your device is from the mesh WiFi Pod
• If anything’s blocking the signal between the Hub, the WiFi Pod, and your device
• Electrical equipment or wireless devices, like a microwave or a baby monitor, nearby that could be disrupting your connection
• The WiFi capabilities of your device – older devices can’t go as fast as newer ones

Our WiFi Pods only work with a Virgin Media Hub. Any other routers or powerline boosters won’t connect.

Before you use a mesh WiFi Pod, you’ll need to disconnect any WiFi Boosters first – also known as our powerline Boosters, they use your home’s electrical wiring to connect to the Hub. Disconnecting these first will make sure your devices can find and connect to the WiFi Pod. It’ll also reduce the WiFi traffic in your home.

Please send back your Boosters when your new Pod arrives. We’ll include a returns pack in the box with the Pod. Didn’t get one? You can order one here.

To use our WiFi Pods, you’ll need to be using a Hub 3, 4, 5 or 5x, as older versions of the Hub aren’t supported by our newer tech.

If you have a Super Hub, please request a free Hub swap.

You can use the free Virgin Media Connect app to see what your device is connected to. You can also test your speeds to get the most out of your WiFi.

Yes, but only if you’re not getting download speeds of at least 30Mbps in every room.

Our home scan feature will guide you from room to room to carry out WiFi speed tests. If it finds download speeds of less than 30Mbps, it’ll test our broadband speed to the WiFi Hub to make sure there isn’t a problem with your network.

If everything’s okay with the Hub, the app will take you through to order a WiFi Pod to help boost your WiFi connection.

Remember, our WiFi Pods and the Connect app only work with the Virgin Media WiFi Hubs 3, 4, 5 or 5x. Not sure which Hub you’ve got? Have a peek at the sticker on the bottom.
